The story of a homemade huckleberry pie…
The huckleberries were hand-picked by the baker herself.
A letter “J” for the birthday girl – Janea – and a healthy sprinkle of sugar completes the crust.
Nothing like a perfectly sweet/perfectly tart huckleberry pie with a flaky/buttery crust.
I normally need a heaping scoop of ice cream to go with a piece of pie, but this was perfect just by itself.
…those last two bites were gone soon after that picture was taken.
yum! I want a piece! I love the dough pressing photo and the sugar action shot. Did you use any artificial lighting or was it all natural light? gorgeous stuff
Thanks Kate! It was mostly natural light, there is a little bit of tungsten light going on during the prep work (hence the warm tones). But no off camera flash here 🙂
It is lucky for me that I made 2 pumpkin, 1 blackberry, and 1 french apple pie yesterday — and lucky for your dad! OR WE WOULD WANT THIS PIE!
We had a neighborhood pie social! YUM! What a great way to start the Fall!
I’m not a big fan of cooked fruit, I like them fresh (I think they taste the best that way). BUT, we had the most amazing bluberry and hucklberry shortcake at Poppy a few nights ago and I’m converted. I got to try and get some and recreate the experience.
